What Would You Ask OSHA Director Michaels?

Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels will speak at PMPA’s Management Update Conference in Glendale, Arizona on Friday, February 15, 2013.

We have scheduled an hour and a half interactive discussion of workplace safety issues with Director Michaels. I will be moderator of the discussion.

What questions would you like to ask the Director  of OSHA and number 2  at Department of Labor?

What thoughts would you like to share with him?

I will do my best to make sure that the most relevant and timely issues are discussed, but first I would like to know what is on your mind?

    I am basically appalled at how a company can operate in the US with total disregard for the safety of its employees. I used to think OSHA had the power to stop companies from putting employees in dangerous situations where loss of life and limb are possible. I worked for XXXXXXXX XXXXX in Canton, Ohio. Their total disregard for the health and safety of the employees was frightening. When OSHA got involved the company was fined, but the unsafe conditions persisted. I believe OSHA is more interested in stripping workers rights and giving more power to corporate America, Implementing useless safety programs that amount to passing out papers that state safety procedures, having employees sign that they have been trained. When an individual is severely injured because this company put them in an unsafe environment, they blame the employee because they signed a paper stating they had been trained on the safety procedures. What does OSHA do with all of the money they collect in fines? I think that the injured employees should receive a portion of this money, because through no fault of their own they are injured. Now they are forced to deal with Workers Compensation. Who will state that the employee had been properly trained, and their injures are not caused by the employer. This is how our tax dollars are spent, and it sickens me.
